SHNet, Jakarta – PT Yili Indonesia Dairy is the producer of the JOYDAY brand of ice cream. As a food manufacturing company committed to achieving zero net emissions by 2050, Yili is actively participating in a program, including planting 1,000 trees in Kota Deltamas.
Deltamas is an environmentally friendly industrial area, focusing on maintaining moderate pollution levels. It is located in Cikarang, Bekasi Regency, West Java, where Yili’s ice cream factory is located.
In April 2022, Yili became the first Chinese food company globally to set carbon emissions and carbon neutrality targets, as well as a long-term roadmap to achieve carbon neutrality across its entire industrial chain by 2050. Since then, Yili has gradually released carbon reduction plans and collaborated with partners across the industrial chain to reduce energy consumption, greenhouse gas emissions, and protect the environment.
President Director of PT Yili Indonesia Dairy, Yu Miao, said, “We are proud to be able to participate in planting 200 of the 1,000 trees in the joint tree-planting activity in the Kota Delta Mas industrial area, where the JOYDAY ice cream factory is located. This demonstrates our commitment as an international company to actively participate in sustainable development as an effort to reduce the current global emissions problem. Yili’s commitment to programs related to environmental sustainability does not stop here but will continue.”
In carrying out its business operations, PT Yili Indonesia Dairy is committed to implementing sustainability standards, including in the construction and operation of its factory. The JOYDAY ice cream factory has a wastewater treatment system that can recycle water and help save up to 4,000 tons of water per year. PT Yili Indonesia Dairy also maintains an innovation environment, involving vendors/suppliers who actively and continuously submit innovative ideas that have a positive impact on the environment and the company. In March 2023, Yili received international water footprint certification for its efforts to reduce water use for both production and operations. Yili also became the first company in China to join the UN Water Action Agenda.
Tommy Satriotomo, Operations Director of Kota Deltamas, said, “Kota Deltamas always strives to contribute to environmental conservation and address the impacts of climate change. Through this joint tree-planting initiative, we encourage tenants located in the Kota Delta Mas industrial area to actively reduce global emissions and, together, produce cool, clean, and healthy air. On this occasion, we planted one thousand trees, including gmelina, gabon, mango, and flamboyant trees. We will continue to strive to make Kota Deltamas a clean, healthy, and environmentally friendly industrial area.”
Bekasi Acting Regent Dani Ramdan said, “Thank you to Deltamas and all the tenants involved in this program. Our current problem is the global climate crisis. The impacts of climate change are already being felt. Some areas can no longer plant crops because their rice fields flood during the rainy season, but during the dry season they lack water, impacting poverty rates. So, this is a challenge for us all, as it will impact the food crisis, the energy crisis, and the livelihood crisis for our children and grandchildren. We must take mitigation steps, no matter how small. One way is by planting trees in every possible area.” (Stevani Elisabeth)
