Factory Inauguration

12 December 2021

PT Yili Indonesia Dairy, a subsidiary of Yili Group, inaugurated its first fully-built dairy production plant in Southeast Asia on Friday (December 10th). The factory aims to meet the growing demand for quality dairy products in Indonesia.

The factory, located in the Deltamas Industrial Estate, Cikarang, West Java, will produce a variety of products, including 35 varieties of Joyday ice cream made with high-quality ingredients.

The Rp 2 trillion factory is built on 17 hectares of land and can support the production of 159 tons of Joyday ice cream per day. Production capacity can reach 4 million ice creams per day after the second phase of investment.

Yu Miao, a management representative and President Director of PT Yili Indonesia Dairy, explained, “The inauguration of this first phase of the factory is the first step in our long-term investment and collaboration with Indonesia. This 8-hectare factory will have a production capacity of over 50,000 tons per year.”

Yili Group is projected to create more than 5,000 new jobs directly and indirectly. They will also expand their collaboration and are committed to using local raw materials from all Indonesian distributors.

Yili Group implements a sustainable and environmentally friendly production facility by adopting a green supply chain management strategy. This facility has a system that can recycle wastewater and save up to 4,000 tons of water per year.

With energy-efficient and efficient machines and natural gas boilers, Yili Group is able to reduce electricity consumption by up to 1.21 million kilowatt-hours and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 8,029 tons annually.

There will be 35 Joyday ice cream variants with distribution lines spread across 260 regencies and cities in 26 Indonesian provinces. Yili Group also plans to export products to other Southeast Asian countries, including Singapore, Thailand, and Myanmar.

In June 2021, Joyday ice cream received the 2021 Brand Choice Award as consumers’ favorite ice cream based on three aspects: Brand Awareness, Brand Choice, and Brand Reviews & Ratings. This award was presented by Infobrand, an authority on brand research in Indonesia.

Pan Gang, Commissioner and President of Yili Group, also expressed his excitement and hopes for the factory inauguration. “Going forward, we will build cooperation between China and Indonesia as a dairy-based industry for a healthy community, improving environmental quality, and contributing to Indonesia’s prosperity,” he said.

The government also welcomed the investment and construction of the PT Yili Indonesia Dairy factory. Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang, in his remarks, stated, “This step (by PT Yili Indonesia Dairy) demonstrates investors’ optimism regarding the wide-open business opportunities and the improving business climate in Indonesia, despite the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.” He also commended PT Yili Indonesia Dairy for its innovative, delicious Joyday ice cream product at an affordable price.

Echoing Agus Gumiwang, the Acting Regent of Bekasi Regency, Akhmad Marjuki, also stated, “I would like to appreciate and express my gratitude to the leadership of PT Yili Indonesia Dairy for entrusting the land in Bekasi Regency, which is considered the best location for establishing and operating this business.”

Akhmad Marjuki hopes that the PT Yili Indonesia Dairy factory will bring benefits and prosperity to the people of Bekasi Regency and Indonesia.

This vaccination demonstrates the company’s commitment to supporting the government’s efforts to address COVID-19.

Previously, Yili Group subsidiary PT Green Asia Food Indonesia distributed over 500,000 Joyday ice cream cones to vaccine recipients and healthcare workers in Jakarta and West Java. They also distributed modified bicycles to support MSMEs in West Java, and 100,000 medical masks, personal protective equipment, and goggles for healthcare workers.
