INDONESIA is ready to achieve net-zero emissions by 2060 by raising its emissions reduction target to 31.89% by 2030.

To support this goal, Yili Indonesia, as part of the Yili Group, a global dairy company from China, is committed to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.

Yili is also actively participating in the Net Zero Carbon program implemented by the Indonesian Food and Drug Monitoring Agency (BPOM) on Tuesday (October 31st) at the Angke Kapuk Mangrove Nature Park, North Jakarta.

Yili Indonesia Dairy President Director, Yu Miao, said, “This program is Yili Group’s effort to participate in the net-zero carbon program, which is part of the company’s vision and mission.”

“A total of 150 mangrove trees were planted in this program. This is Yili’s first involvement in mangrove planting in Indonesia,” Yu Miao said in a press release on Wednesday (November 1st).

Previously, Yili Indonesia also participated in coral reef conservation in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) for the G-20 event.

“Of course, Yili’s commitment to programs related to environmental sustainability doesn’t stop here and will continue,” explained Yu Miao.

Indonesia is a maritime nation with 17,000 large and small islands and an 81,000-kilometer coastline that can become a potential growth area for mangrove forests.

Mangrove forests act as a barrier to protect coastlines from erosion, which in severe cases can lead to natural disasters.

Indonesia has approximately 3.5 million hectares of mangrove forest, or about 23% of the world’s total, with 92 mangrove species, making it one of the most diverse.

At a mangrove planting event at the Angke Nature Tourism Park in North Jakarta, the Head of the Food and Drug Monitoring Agency (BPOM), Penny Kusumastuti Lukito, mentioned that the mangrove planting program for the Net Zero Carbon program will involve 16,000 trees and will be a multi-year, five-year project.

Over the five-year period, the target is to plant 47,500 mangrove trees, with a target of absorbing 1,398 tons of CO2 annually.

Penny also added that although the Indonesian Food and Beverage Producers Association (BPOM) is not an institution directly involved in the environment, this program represents a community initiative to actively participate in restoring the sustainability of the earth.

Adhi S. Lukman, Chairman of the Indonesian Food and Beverage Producers Association (GAPMMI), said, “As players in the food and beverage industry, many raw materials come from nature.”

“This is one of our efforts to contribute to environmental preservation,” he said.

“The collaboration between BPOM, GAPMMI, and Yili Indonesia Dairy in this mangrove planting program is one effort to protect the environment and nature,” Adhi said. (RO/S-4)
